"Some verses are employed because they mention a powerful and virtuous biblical figure regarded to have power over the eye, such as Serach bat Asher (Num 26:46)" ~ Jewish Myth, Magic, and Mysticism
"Grand-daughter of Ya'akov Avinu, Serakh {or Serah} is counted among the seventy members of the patriarch's family who emigrated from K'naan to Mitzraim, and her name occurs in connection with the census taken by Moshe in the wilderness. The fact of her being the only female to be mentioned in the genealogical list seemed to the Sages to indicate that there was something extraordinary in connection with her history; and she became the heroine of several legends."

"A number of midrashim have been written about Serakh. According to one midrash, Serakh was not Asher's daughter, but his stepdaughter. She was three years old when Asher married her mother, and she was brought up in Beis Ya'akov, whose affection she won by her remarkable piety and virtue {Midrash Abot, p. 45}. The most well known of the midrashim about her tells of how she was the first to inform Ya'akov that his son Yosef was still alive. Fearing that the news will be too much of a shock for the old man, however, she informs Ya'akov by playing a harp for him, gently mixing in the words that Yosef is "alive and the ruler of all Mitzraim." In return, Ya'akov blesses her, saying "May you live forever and never die." According to this midrash, Serakh was eventually permitted to enter Shamayim alive, something achieved only by a pair of Nevi'im. Moshe Rabbeinu addressed himself to Serakh when he wished to learn where the remains of Yosef were to be buried {Sotah 13a; Deuteronomy Rabba 11.}. According to the Midrash {Ecclesiastes Rabba vii. 11}, Serakh was "the wise woman" who caused the death of Sheba ben Bichri {2 Shmuel 10}. According to another legend she lived until Shevet Asher was exiled by Shalmaneser V, went with them into exile, and died there, nearly 1000 years old. According to the legend, her grave is located in Esfahan, a small Persian village located about 340 km south of Tehran and is the capital of Esfahan Province and Iran's second largest city (after Tehran). The site consists of a small synagogue and a huge cemetery which is probably 2000 years old."

There are also stories of her identifying Moshe as the man who will lead Shevatim Yisra'elim to freedom, and of her telling Moshe where to find where Yosef was buried, although his body had been placed in a lead casket on the bottom of the Nile river when he died. Some consider her the guardian of Yisra'el's communal memory."
