THE JERUSALEM POST: Since last September, our movements have become very limited for fear of the security situation, and there are some members of the community who preferred to leave Yemen. We don’t want to leave. If we wanted to, we would have done so a long time ago. In Israel, the girls rebel against their fathers, and we fear for our daughters. I could not accept that my daughter might come to me one day and tell me that she was married to her boyfriend. This is not permissible in our religion.

The last time I saw Farrah Fidler, before she made aliyah to Tel Aviv, Israel, I was loitering with a bunch of youth on the curb, talking to strangers aka thugs in front of the Bowery Poetry Club. A Jewish friend had just rapped. It was Hip Hop Night. She approached me, in the middle of all that mess, and interrogated me about my Skin, then she went back to her outdoor table with Vanessa Hidary aka The Hebrew Mamita just a few doors down, smoking and utterly bored of the Boyz. She almost managed me, but settled for Knishes or something instead.
