Fuzion

Soomi Kim inquires, "Dear musician friends: I have been podering this question: At what point does "fusion" occur in music? this is a real question!"

my reply: (former keyboardist for electro-clash band that got to play cbgb's before folding) om, honestly, there are only a few bands that accomplish this in our current generation with live instrumentation (from a Western persepective): SMZ/Godspeed You! Black Emperor and The Psalters. As for more classical collectives, The Silk Road Project and similar ensemble concerts (on occasion, since they are not officially arranged like Yo-Yo Ma's vision) achieve this. Actually, to answer your inquiry following stream-of-consciousness: Rotational Instrumentation (with upgrades where necessary, such as the fairly recent evolution of Chinese Tipinies), preferably counter-clockwise. Furthermore, South-East Asian indigenous forms have yet to be tested in a larger theatre.
