Pagmamano or Mano Po: Transmitting of blessing and a sign of respect toward Filipin@ elders or leadership, executed by taking the hand(s) of the elder and bringing the back of their hand(s) to your forehead.
The younger generation of Mom's side of the family of immigrants has all but forgotten the gesture of honor. However, I distinctly recall the younger generation of Dad's side of the family (predominantly residing in China and The Philippines) grabbing both his hands, upon arrival. A much better investment. Unlike her side of the family who are mostly in the food and medical services industries (nurses or hospital technician positions), his side own several businesses near the capital of Manila, Baguio Mountain, and Hong Kong, including a fishery, arcade, and entertainment. Greater diversity of input will lead to greater diversity of output and a more vibrant economy.
